Personalized, one-to-one mathematics tuition in the Cheltenham

Background

I graduated from Bath University in 2001 with a First Class Degree in Mathematical Sciences. I have taught for a total of 12 years in local schools, including Dean Close and St Edward’s Senior School. In 2016, I began tutoring one-to-one and have gradually built up a thriving business.

Throughout my career, I’ve taught Key Stages 3-5, with a heavy focus on GCSE and A Level, including the Further Pure Mathematics content. I’ve worked for Pearson Edexcel since 2002 as an associate examiner for their A Level examinations.

Expertise

Working closely with a child on a one-to-one basis helps me identify specific needs, gaps and areas for development. Over time, I address these and confidence is built.

Many of my one-to-one pupils are strong mathematicians. In these cases, a child is stretched much more than they would be in a classroom.

My knowledge of the cirriculum and experience in examining means I am also able to homeschool pupils for GCSE, iGCSE and A Level Mathematics.

Personalised Lessons

Every child is unique, one design does not suit all. I work with your child to build confidence, understanding and mathematical fluency in an engaging and relevant manner.

Each child benefits from utilising different approaches and methods. Time with your child helps me identify what works for them and so unlock their potential.

T, Year 9, Cheltenham Ladies College

Emma is an excellent maths teacher who came highly recommended to help my daughter get back on track, having lost confidence in her maths ability.

Emma is approachable and has developed a good relationship with my daughter. She was quick to identify areas that needed reinforcement and has worked patiently to build confidence in these areas while also supporting the KS3 curriculum.

J & L, Year 9 and 10-11, Cheltenham Ladies College

Emma has provided Maths tuition to both my daughters since 2018. She is an elite teacher, highly skilled and professional, but also down to earth and friendly.  What makes Emma very different from other Maths tutors is her ability to cover complex material with ease, confidence, maturity and a patience honed over many years of classroom teaching and experience as an A-level examiner.

Emma has helped both my daughters become confident mathematicians. She has inspired them to take risks, be creative and have fun with Maths! I cannot think of a better approach and am very grateful to Emma for bringing out the joy in Maths and inspiring the girls to pursue Maths at highest levels offered.

W, Year 10-11, Cotswold School

Emma came highly recommended from a friend whose daughter excels at maths and was aiming for a top grade at GCSE. My son by contrast finds maths challenging and was struggling with this subject in school to such an extent that he was concerned he was going to fail his GCSE. Emma was able to focus on the areas where he had slipped behind and she really built his confidence and helped him to understand subjects that had seemed incomprehensible in school. Maths was never a subject he enjoyed but he came to look forward to his sessions with Emma as her approach is so encouraging and positive. We were all so happy when his results came through – he attained a high 5, a grade he would never have come close to without Emma’s help.

I would not hesitate to recommend Emma as a maths tutor – in fact we have our younger son on her waiting list to help him study towards his maths GCSE next year!
